November 27, 2022 Lake Lanier Striper Fishing Report
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Most of you already know, I usually take a “few” days off the water in late October and early November to target some 4 legged critters. Despite the time spent in the deer woods I still been on the water every week and was lucky enough to tag out this season! Now it’s back to business as usual.
Lake Lanier is currently at 1066.07’ MSL, which is 4.93’ below full pool and still dropping slightly. Surface temps are steady in the upper 50’s lake wide.
Striper fishing has been good! I’m often asked if the fishing is any good in the winter. Yes it is! I would say the toughest time of the year has past. We had our share of days we had to work for them in the past month, along with days they were really fired up. Now there is consistency in getting those rods bent. We are using 2 primary methods deploying our live baits, slow trolling freelines/planner boards and dropping downlines. Outside early morning and evening the downlines with Blueback Herring have been the go to with target bottom depth 30-60’. I have been staggering the downlines right above the bait and fish, and dropping down a couple cranks off the bottom where the timber allows. 40-45’ have seem like the hot depth midday. If you are spot-locked kick out a couple unweighted pitch baits. They have been accounting for some bonus bites. For stubborn fish try slow trolling the downlines right off the slick bottom .3-.5 mph. When doing this, rather than the pitch baits, have a couple freelines off the stern with one weighted and one unweighted. If cool crisp mornings aren’t your forte, the midday trips have been a hot producer and I have been pushing a good bit of the full day charters to about a 10am start time.
The past few seasons the gift certificates have been really popular for an awesome Christmas gift. Keep your eye out on the website and IG this week. I will put a special discount $50 all 1/2 and full day trips until Christmas! Use promo code: “MERRYFISHMAS” at checkout! They are available to purchase online or call or text 404-803-8608.
